Could it be a move to Real Madrid? Kylian Mbappe has waived a huge bonus due to him from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).
“Mbappe has agreed to waive part of the bonus owed to him by the club,” French journalist Fabrice Hawkins of RMC Sport and a regular source for PSG news reported on social media on Sunday (July 17).
The total amount of the bonus Mbappe has agreed to forgo is said to be a whopping €80 million.토토사이트
This was reportedly a loyalty bonus that Mbappe added to his contract when he signed a new two-year deal with PSG last June. In exchange for Mbappe choosing to stay, PSG promised to pay him an astronomical bonus if he was still with the club in the 2023/24 season.
The fact that Mbappe agreed to forgo some, but not all, of the promised bonus has left fans wondering what this means for his future.
With the news of Mbappe’s partial waiver, Hawkins explained that “PSG still want to extend his contract, but Mbappe is in control of his own destiny,” and that it was entirely up to him to decide whether or not to stay.
Mbappe is a world-class striker who has become a household name for France and PSG. Since joining PSG in 2017, he has scored 227 goals and provided 99 assists in 275 games, and has already reached two World Cup finals, winning one (Russia 2018) and finishing as runner-up (Qatar 2022).
He is also considered one of the closest players to winning the Ballon d’Or in the future, having finished third in the 2023 Ballon d’Or voting behind Lionel Messi (Inter Miami) and Elling Holland (Manchester City).
PSG have made it known on numerous occasions that they would like to extend their relationship with one of the best strikers in the world, but Mbappe’s lack of enthusiasm for staying has left many wondering if we will see him in a PSG shirt next season.
Mbappe will leave PSG when his contract expires next June, but he has yet to agree to a contract extension. Some have suggested that Mbappe’s decision to forgo a hefty loyalty bonus is an attempt to secure a move to his dream club, Real Madrid.
“Mbappe will forgo a loyalty bonus from PSG to pursue a move to Real Madrid in the summer of 2024,” Spain’s AS reported on April 4. “Mbappe will leave PSG as a free agent at the end of this season. The club is desperately trying to prevent a free transfer, but its position has been weakened after the player agreed to waive the loyalty bonus he was due to receive.”
PSG paid AS Monaco a whopping €120 million in transfer fees when they acquired Mbappe. Mbappe was on the verge of leaving the club for zero transfer fee, but the story goes that he convinced the club to waive his royalties to offset some of the losses PSG would incur and to stop the club from blocking his move.
It has been speculated that Mbappe is preparing for a move to Spanish La Liga and it has been claimed that Real may not actually sign him in the summer of 2024.
The Spanish publication Cadena Ser cited three reasons why Real might decide not to pursue Mbappe. “Real have already tried to sign Mbappe three times without success, and the player is demanding a salary of at least €20 million ($28.3 billion),” the publication explained. “The current highest-paid players at Real earn between €10 and €15 million ($14.1 and $21.2 billion), so Real were worried that the salary Mbappe was demanding would disrupt the existing salary structure.”
“Finally, at 25 years old, Mbappe no longer fits into Real’s transfer policy of investing heavily in younger talent.” Mbappe, born in 1998, will turn 26 next summer. If you look at the major signings Real have made in the last three years, Jude Bellingham (20), Arda Güler (18), Endrique (17), Aurélien Chouameni (23), and Eduardo Kamabinga (21) were all young players who arrived before they turned 22.
This has led to speculation that Real could make a move for Holland, who is two years younger than Mbappe. The future of City’s ‘monster striker’ has been in the spotlight recently, with news that his €200 million buyout clause will be triggered next summer.
