It was Real Madrid that won the second derby of this season. In a slugfest where eight goals were scored during the 120 minutes, it was none other than a defender who boasted of his scoring ability. Notably, Antonio Rudiger had an unusual day, scoring both the first goal and his own goal in a single game.
Real Madrid beat Atletico Madrid 5-3 in the semi-final of Super Cup at King Saud University Al Awal Park in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Real Madrid won the Super Cup final at the same venue four days later. On the other side, Barcelona and Osasuna will play. The Spanish Super Cup was held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, last season, in which the top two teams in La Liga and the final teams in Copa del Rey will participate.
Meanwhile, the match was the second among four Madrid derbies in the 2023-24 season. In the sixth round of the Spanish La Liga in September last year, Atlético de Janeiro, which had goals by Alvaro Morata (two goals) and Antoine Griezmann, won 3-1.

Real, led by Carlo Ancelotti, played 4-3-1-2. Vinicius Junior, Hodrigu and Jude Bellingham came to the front, while Luca Modric, Orelien Chuameni and Federico Valverde took charge of the midfield. The back 4 was Ferland Mendy, Nacho Fernandez, Rudiger, Dani Carvajal, and the goalkeeper’s glove was Kepa Arrizabalaga.마카오토토도메인
Atletico, led by coach Diego Simeone, faced 3-5-2. Griezmann and Morata were in front, and Samuel Linu, Saul Niguez, Koke, Hodrigo de Paul, and Marcos Llorente were behind. Mario Hermoso, Jose Jimenez, Stefan Sibic were responsible for the back three, and Jan Oblak was responsible for the goal.
The two teams staged a slugfest from the first half. Coincidentally, the protagonists were defenders of the two teams. It was Atletico that opened the door. At the 6th minute in the first half, he shook the opponent team and succeeded in the header with ease. The trajectory was so accurate that Kepa could not react properly.
In the 20th minute, Real responded in the same way. Modric’s corner kick was flown by Rudiger and connected it with a header to shake the net.
The additional goal was for Real. Just nine minutes later, Carbajal’s grounder cross and Mendy shook the net with a sensational left-footed shot. It was a scene where the proper penetration shone.
Atletico, however, immediately struck a balance. Griezmann dribbled past Modric and Rudiger before connecting with a powerful right footed shot. Kepa threw himself, but the ball swung into the net. The first half ended 2-2, with three of the first four goals coming from defenders.
The defender’s goal continued in the second half. Morata and Kepa were competing to pass a cross at 33rd minute in the second half, when the ball hit Rudiger and headed for the net. It was an own goal that was unlucky for Rudiger, and an exquisite come-from-behind goal for Atletico.
Real balanced the match in the 39th minute of the second half. Vinicius and Bellingham’s shots were blocked in the counterattack, but Carvajal shook the net with a powerful right foot shot.
Eventually, the game went to extra time. He failed to score in the first half of extra time, but a defender worked in the second half as well. In the 11th minute of extra time, Hoselu’s header was superbly deflected off Savic and headed to an unstoppable position. It was a moment when Real was ahead again.
Atletico tried to make up for it by putting Oblak in front in the final set-piece attack, but Real eventually succeeded in clearing the ball long. Brahim Diaz then pushed it toward the empty goal and sealed the net.
Meanwhile, there are still two more derbies left in the Madrid derby. The two teams will meet in the round of 16 of the King’s Cup on March 19 and will face off in the round of 23 of the league on February 5. Depending on the UEFA Champions League matches in the future, they may face off again from the quarterfinals.
