Gimcheon won the K League 2 upset → promoted after 1 season… Busan Goes Directly to K League 1 ‘Musan’

Gimcheon Commerce returns to the K League 1 after a one-season absence. Busan was denied direct promotion after conceding a late goal.

Gimcheon won 1-0 at home against Seoul Eland FC in the 39th round of the Hana OneQ K League 2 2023 at Gimcheon Sports Complex on Nov. 26, thanks to a goal from Kim Hyun-wook. With 71 points (22 wins, 5 draws, and 9 losses), Gimcheon pulled off a dramatic upset over Busan Ice Park, which drew 1-1 with Chungbuk Cheongju FC at the same time.토토사이트

The winner of the K League 2 will be promoted directly to the K League 1. Gimcheon finished 11th last season and was relegated to K League 2 after losing in the promotion playoffs (PO) to K League 2 side Daejeon Hana Citizen. However, the team realized its dream of returning to the K League 1 in just one season.

Kim Hyun-wook picked up the ball near the arc circle in the 37th minute, dribbled past one defender and rattled the net with a left-footed shot. After the game, Gimcheon players and coach Jung Jeong-yong hugged each other and celebrated the promotion.

Busan, on the other hand, narrowly missed out on direct promotion. Busan drew 1-1 with Chungbuk Cheongju in the league’s final match at Busan Asiadju Stadium at the same time. Up until the 45th minute, it looked like Busan was on the verge of promotion after Pessin’s goal gave them a 1-0 lead. However, Georges equalized in second-half stoppage time. Kim Myung-soon’s cross was met by a sensational volley from Georges. After the game, the Busan players and coach Park Jin-seop looked devastated.

After failing to win direct promotion, Busan will now try to win promotion through the promotion PO. Busan will play the 11th-ranked team in the K League 1. They will face either Gangwon FC, Suwon FC or Suwon Samsung.

Gyeongnam FC clinched fourth place with a 1-0 win away to third-place Gimpo FC, thanks to a Park Min-seo goal. Bucheon FC secured fifth place with a 4-1 home win over the Jeonnam Dragons. This completes the K League Two Semi-Po bracket. Fifth-ranked Bucheon and fourth-ranked Gyeongnam will meet to determine who will advance to the K League Promotion PO.

The K-League Promotion PO will pit the 11th-ranked Busan against the 11th-ranked Busan, and the 10th-ranked Busan against the winner of the K-League 2 PO. The first leg of the Promotion PO will be held on December 6 at 7 p.m., and the second leg will be held on December 9 at 2 p.m., home and away.
